2 October 2009 - EU extends rules on anti-trust immunity for shipping firms
European Union regulators extended an antitrust exemption that shipping companies use when cooperating on cargo services to April 2015.
The European Commission narrowed the exemption aiming to boost competition and lower prices. The revised regulation cuts the market share threshold over which the anti-trust exemption no longer applies to 30 percent from 35 percent.
The commission’s move comes as the commission seeks to remove special anti-trust rules for individual industries.
