News for White paper for transport 2011
29 August 2011 - 5 Sep 2011 Poland hosts meeting of EU transport ministers
Meeting informally in Soport, European Union transport ministers are expected to unveil a map to a single European transport area.  The European Observer notes that some major European airports are not linked, port infrastructure is lacking, and super-fast rail service ends at borders where electricity systems differ. With an emphasis on sustainability, the single European transport area will move toward new infrastructure and the renewal of existing infrastructure. The ministers will be looking for "non-budgetary ways of funding transport infrastructure," according to the Polish EU presidency web site, because of the "current economic situation in Europe and in the world." The map must take into account spending stipulations of the bloc's New Financial Framework.
