This study contains overview of technologies such as bar codes, 2D codes, (passive and active) RFID and OCR technologies. 

The most important identification techniques for goods are barcode and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification). Barcode is currently the most widely used method, but RFID is better suitable for automated identification since it allows to handle larger  reading distances, has the possibility to identify multiple items in a single reading, and can identify the target in motion.
